This is my interpretation of Cocteau Twins’ Four-Calendar Café — one of my favourite albums. I wanted to redesign something that closely resonates with the emotions of both the sounds and lyrics, hoping to appeal to die-hard fans of the Cocteau Twins and lovers of the dream pop genre. 

The image-making techniques I used were cyanolumen and lumen printing. These are photographic techniques that don’t require a camera, as they involve laying an object on light-sensitive paper and exposing it to UV light over time to develop negatives. The results are experimental and unpredictable, which is part of their beauty. I wanted to encapsulate the hardships of Fraser’s relationships with her marriage, daughter, and, most importantly, herself during the band’s period of falling out. The natural and slow process of the print makes it unstable, risking fading over time unless fixed, thus capturing the fleeting moments of Fraser’s vulnerability.
